MPs to take evidence from Ministers on exiting the EU and the scrutiny of delegated legislation

The Procedure Committee of the House of Commons is to take evidence from the Leader of the House of Commons, Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP, and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union, Steve Baker MP, as part of the committee’s inquiry into how delegated legislation is scrutinised, as set out in the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill.

Evidence will also be taken from the SNP’s Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, Pete Wishart MP. Shadow Ministers from the Official Opposition will give evidence to the Committee on a date to be announced.

The initial focus of the inquiry is on the power to enact delegated legislation claimed by the Government in Clauses 7, 8 and 9 of the bill, and the procedures for Parliamentary scrutiny set out in Schedule 7 to the Bill.

The following oral evidence session has been arranged:

Wednesday 18 October in Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster

· At 2:50 pm: Pete Wishart MP, SNP Shadow Leader of the House of Commons
· At 3:15 pm: Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP, Leader of the House of Commons, and Mr Steve Baker MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Exiting the European Union
