Calls for ‘proper recognition’ for supply teachers in Wales

There are currently around 4,500 supply teachers in Wales, but the campaign group ‘Fair Deal for Supply Teachers’ is organising a lobby outside the Senedd next Wednesday to highlight concerns.

Commenting this morning, Shadow Education Secretary – Darren Millar – said:

“Numerous reports have identified problems with supply teaching in Wales. 

“Supply teachers play an extremely important role in our schools. They must be given proper recognition for that role and given access to the training and support they need. 

“Sadly, that recognition and support just isn’t there and as a result supply teachers don't feel valued. We need rapid action from the Welsh Government address this issue.”
