Green Party responds to NAO homelessness report

The Green Party has accused the Government of “wilfully neglecting” homeless people in Britain after a damning National Audit Office report [1] revealed the Government has no plans to evaluate the impact of its welfare reforms on homelessness.

Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party, said:

“This is a damning report highlighting a clear dereliction of duty. The Government is not only wilfully neglecting homeless people in Britain but Ministers are compounding the homelessness epidemic by failing to evaluate their disastrous welfare reforms. While the Government sits on its hands more and more people are losing the roofs over their heads.

“The Department for Communities and Local Government must produce a cross Government strategy for tackling homelessness immediately. This should include bold policies to protect renters including rent controls, a living rent and support for renters’ unions, as well as commitments to build more social homes, and scrapping Right to Buy.”
