This decision will be welcomed by the families of the 96 innocent people killed at Hillsborough - Watson

Tom Watson MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, commenting on the news that there will be criminal prosecutions of 6 individuals involved in the Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath, said:

"This decision will be welcomed by the families of the 96 innocent people killed at Hillsborough, who faced intransigence and obfuscation during their long campaign to learn the truth about what happened to their loved ones. It will now be for a jury to consider these charges and it is right that they should do so without fear or favour so that they can reach a decision based on the evidence presented in court.”
