Invest in education as part of a long-term economic plan says ASCL

Commenting on Prime Minister Theresa May’s announcement today that she is calling for a General Election on 8 June, Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said:

“ASCL will be developing a manifesto in the coming weeks. Our top message is that there is insufficient funding in the education system. We call on all political parties to commit to investing in education as part of a long-term economic plan.

“Funding must be at an appropriate level to compete with the best education systems in the world and meet the challenges of the 21st century. It should be sufficient, sustainable and equitable. 

“Investing in education will help ensure the future wellbeing and prosperity of the nation.”
