EEF comment on Great Repeal Bill

Commenting on the publication of the white paper on the Great Repeal Bill, Terry Scuoler Chief Executive of EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation said:

“Stability is the watchword for businesses and we need as much clarity and certainty in the next two years as we can get. By providing legal certainty on the day we leave the EU the Great Repeal Bill goes some way to achieving that. Of paramount importance to business is knowing that the regulatory framework with the EU will allow effortless trade as we currently enjoy.

“Our national economic interest requires Government and parliament to work hand-in-glove with industry to ensure a smooth transition during the next two years and beyond. Equally important will be sufficient and thorough scrutiny of all legislation, thereby minimising the threat of long-term and potentially severe damage to Britain’s business interests. After leaving the EU our new relationship with the bloc must pave the way for significant regulatory cooperation, preventing divergence between UK and EU laws and regulations.”
