Cat Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement and Youth Affairs, commenting on Cabinet Office measures that make it easier for survivors of domestic abuse to register to vote anonymously, said:

“Labour supports new measures making the anonymous voter registration scheme more accessible to victims of domestic abuse. This is welcome news and will enable those most vulnerable to take part in our democratic process.

"While the minister has pledged to remove any barriers that prevent voters from exercising their democratic right, the Tories are not always delivering on their promises. The trials of voter ID in some 2018 local elections contradicts this entirely and will only prevent legitimate voters, particularly those from disadvantaged groups, from voting.”
