real taste of South West England when chefs from the famous Fifteen

week.
The main aim of the event on September 26 will be to raise the
profile of skills and training in the region, particularly relating
to catering, leisure and tourism.
MP, the Minister for the South
West, will be among speakers at the event, which will be hosted by
the South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA) at the
Aruba Restaurant.
The RDA's chairman, , will stress the
importance of raising business and hospitality skills if this
country is to remain a popular tourism and leisure
destination.
"The importance of investing in staff in the tourism and
hospitality industries is vital if the UK as a whole is to provide
a world-class experience for visitors," she said. "Fifteen Cornwall
clearly exemplifies the benefits of making training
live."
As well as showcasing the talent of Fifteen Cornwall's chefs, the
reception will introduce delegates and guests to the wide range of
excellent food and drink produced in South West England
Representatives from the skills sector and the food and drink
industry will be on hand to discuss the issues, opportunities and
challenges with delegates.
Fifteen Cornwall was launched by Jamie Oliver in Watergate Bay,
Cornwall, in May 2006 to give disadvantaged young people the
opportunity to turn their lives around by training them to become
world class chefs. The concept has worked, and 12 of the first
intake of students have graduated - going on to work at restaurants
in this country and America.
Neil Haydock, executive head chef at Fifteen Cornwall said: "The
event provides a fantastic opportunity for our talented young
apprentices to show what can be achieved when young people from
disadvantaged backgrounds are given the support and motivation to
use a passion for food to turn their lives around.
"The apprentices are used to working in their familiar surroundings
of the Fifteen Cornwall restaurant at Watergate Bay but as part of
their professional development it's great for them to cook in
another kitchen and meet conference delegates with an interest in
what we do."
The evening is being organised by the South West RDA in partnership
with Fifteen Cornwall, South West Food and Drink, and Bournemouth
and Poole College. The venue is Aruba a newly developed restaurant
in Bournemouth.
