Lords defence industry inquiry focuses on role of local authorities

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee continues its inquiry into the relationship between the Government and the defence industry on Tuesday 21 July 2026 by hearing from Tracey Lee, Chief Executive, Plymouth City Council.    

  
The session will begin at 11am and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

Members are expected to ask questions on:

• the relationship between local authorities and the UK Government in relation to defence;

• the role local authorities play in supporting their local defence industries, including SMEs and supply chain companies;

• the broader benefits the defence sector can bring to Plymouth;

• the Plymouth Defence Growth Deal;
  
  
• testing and deploying autonomous maritime systems.
  
  

The Committee's call for evidence is open until 21 July.
