Former Cabinet Secretary to give evidence on UK’s constitutional guardians

Tomorrow the House of Lords Constitution Committee will be questioning former Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, Lord Sedwill, as it commences its new inquiry into the role of the UK's constitutional guardians.  

The session will take place on Wednesday 15 July at 10:30am and can be followed live on Parliament TV. 

Themes the session will cover include: 

• Who are the principal constitutional guardians in the UK political system and what is their role; 

• The role of the Cabinet Secretary as a constitutional guardian; 

• The powers and weaknesses of the Cabinet Secretary as a constitutional guardian; 

• The Cabinet Secretary's roles and responsibilities in relation to constitutional guardianship and the current processes for the appointment and removal of the Cabinet Secretary; 

• Threats to the constitution and whether the UK's constitutional democracy is, or could come, under strain.
