Can the NHS move faster on adopting innovative technologies? Peers to question MHRA Chief executive

From 11:15 on Tuesday 30 June the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will hear from the CEO of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to find out what measures they are taking, particularly in personalised medicine and AI, to accelerate the adoption of innovation in the NHS.

The evidence session will take place in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster and will be available to watch live from 11.15 or on demand on Parliamentlive.tv.   

The committee is expected to ask questions on the following:

• The process and length of time for innovations or new medicines to get into routine care including join-up with NICE and NHS Commissioning

• Regulatory capacity to engage pro-actively with industry, especially SMEs, and to assess new technologies and medicines quickly and aligning with international regulatory standards

• The regulation of AI tools for use as medical devices

• How the MHRA is approaching regulating personalised medicines where treatments might be developed are unique to a person's individual condition such as cell and gene therapies

• The UK's approach to clinical trials including competitiveness, speed and challenge from AI designed drugs.
