FM: Scotland has what it takes to make history at the World Cup

Scotland's men's national team can make history by reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup, First Minister John Swinney has said.

Mr Swinney said Scotland fans have captured the imagination of millions, as he urged the team to make themselves legends during their game against Brazil in Miami.

He said:

Scotland's men's national team have shown amazing grit and determination during their World Cup campaign so far. Their performance on the pitch has been matched by the spirit of Scotland and its fans in Boston, Miami and here at home.

The Tartan Army has captured the imagination of millions and I know that the team will have been inspired by their support. I know they can make history by reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time the team have the chance to make themselves legends tonight.

I want to offer the best of luck to Steve Clarke and the whole team. The whole of Scotland, and I suspect many Americans, are right behind you.
