Tomorrow, Wednesday 24 June, the House of Lords
Public Services Committee will continue its inquiry into falling
primary school rolls. The Committee will hear from witnesses
representing key professionals, trade unions and think tanks to
get their perspective on the causes, impacts and solutions to
this issue.
The session will start at 11:00am and can be watched live
or on demand at Parliament
TV or heard in person in Committee Room 2, Palace
of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:

Jenna Julius, Research Director for Systems
and Structures Development, National Foundation for Educational
Research (NFER);

Jon Andrews, Head of Analysis and Director for
School System and Performance, Education Policy Institute
(EPI); and

Pepe Di'Iasio, General Secretary, Association
of School and College Leaders (ASCL).
Questions will include:
- How is demand for primary schools changing and expected to
change? How do the causes and scale of the issue differ across
different contexts?
- What are the immediate implications of falling demand for
primary schools?
- What steps are being taken by schools and admissions
authorities to manage changing demand for primary schools? What
are the key consideration involved in, and impacts of, these
decisions?
- What reforms would enable the sector to better respond to
changing demand for primary school places?
