Lords Committee publishes call for evidence for its multilateralism inquiry

The cross-party House of Lords International Relations and Defence Committee has published its call for evidence for its current inquiry into the UK's engagement with multilateral organisations.

As the multilateral system undergoes significant transformationshifting away from cooperation and entering an era in which established assumptions about the international order are being challengedthis inquiry will offer an opportunity to assess its current state and re-assess the UK's role. The Committee will aim to develop evidence-based recommendations to help guide the UK Government in navigating the changing world order.

This call for evidence is the first of two to be published by the Committee and seeks to collect evidence about the high-level trends impacting the multilateral system. Read the full call for evidence and find out how to make submissions. The deadline for submissions is 5.00pm on Monday 20 July.

The next evidence session of the inquiry is due to take place on 24 June. Full details of that session will be available in due course.

Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, who chairs the Committee, said:

This call for evidence is the first of two to be published by the Committee. At this stage, we are focusing on receiving evidence covering topics including the US retreat from global leadership, the role of China in multilateral cooperation and the UK's role in navigating the changing world order, with a focus on the implications for UK strategy. 

We look forward to receiving submissions and considering them. Once we've done this, we will use our findings as a basis for the second call for evidence before moving on to issue recommendations to the Government.
