Tomorrow, Wednesday 17 June, the House of Lords
Public Services Committee will hold its first public evidence
session in its inquiry on falling primary school rolls. The
Committee will hear from representatives of a variety of
admission authorities from different regions in order to gain a
perspective on how falling enrolment is manifesting, probable
causes and impacts and how best it should be tackled.
The session will start at 11:00am and can be watched live
or on demand at Parliament
TV or heard in person in Committee Room 2A,
Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:

Steve Rollett, Deputy Chief Executive,
Confederation of School Trusts;

Heather Sandy CBE, Chair, Inclusive Education
Policy Network, Association of Directors of Children's
Services, and Executive Director of Children's Services,
Lincolnshire County Council; and

Yolande Burgess, Strategy Director, London's
Communities and Public Service Reform, London Councils.
Questions will include:
- How is demand for primary schools changing and expected to
change?
- What are the causes of changing demand for primary schools,
and how do the causes and scale of the issue differ across
different contexts?
- What steps are being taken by schools and admissions
authorities to manage changing demand for primary schools? What
are the key considerations involved in, and impacts of, these
decisions?
- What are the roles of schools, local authorities and
Government in relation to changing demand for primary school
places, particularly falling demand?
- What reforms would enable the sector to better respond to
changing demand for primary school places?
