Communities Minister has visited the Causeway
Giants in Armoy to see how £15,000 investment from his Department
through the Olympic Legacy Fund is making a real difference.
The funding supported the refurbishment of changing and toilet
facilities, improving safety, quality, accessibility and
longevity.
Minister Lyons said: “It has been a pleasure to see how the
Olympic Legacy Fund is making a positive difference to the
Causeway Giants.
“I really enjoyed meeting the volunteers and participants who
give so much of their time and energy to ensure participation in
sport is open for everyone.
“This club is at the heart of the community and plays a key role
in helping people stay active, improve their health and build
confidence and friendships. I wish them every success for the
future.”
The Olympic Legacy Fund was designed by the Department to
modernise community sports facilities and equipment following the
Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and it delivering for the
local community.
The Department for Communities secured a total of £2.136million
for the Olympic Legacy Fund which is being delivered by Sport NI
in partnership with Crowdfunder UK.
Richard Archibald, Interim CEO Sport NI said: “It is great to see
the impact the Olympic Legacy Fund is having on sports clubs
across NI. The fund has brought clubs and communities together to
meet their fundraising targets and secure our match funding.
Sport has the power to change lives, and this funding is helping
clubs improve their facilities and provide more opportunities for
people to participate in sport.”
