Cabinet Readout - Tuesday 19 May

The Prime Minister opened Cabinet by welcoming the new Health Secretary and Chief Secretary to the Treasury.  

The Prime Minister then asked the leaders of the Commons and the Lords to update on business in both Houses, including the last day of debate on the King's Speech in the Commons tomorrow.  

Turning to delivery, the Prime Minister said the government had made really good progress in the first two years in office, as indicated by the number of bills passed in the first session. He pointed to good growth figures, published last week, making the UK the top country in the G7 for growth between January and March. The Prime Minister also referenced strong NHS waiting list figures, also released last week, and said the government needed to continue to build on these achievements through increased delivery.  

The Prime Minister then turned to the Chief Secretary to the PM to update the Cabinet on delivery. The CSPM said the government need to unblock delivery challenges and set out reforms, including rolling out delivery teams across a number of Whitehall departments.
