On Tuesday 28 April
from 11:00am the House of Lords European Affairs
Committee will
continue its inquiry into dynamic alignment.
The Government is negotiating three
new agreements with the EU, on a common SPS area, Emission
Trading Scheme linkage, and UK participation in the EU internal
electricity market.
This week the Committee
will be exploring aspects of prospective dynamic
alignment with the EU that are related to devolution and the
devolved Governments and legislatures.
From 11:00am the Committee will hear
from:
-
, Emeritus Professor of Irish
Politics, Queen's University Belfast
-
Professor Jo Hunt, Professor of Law,
Cardiff School of Law and Politics, University of
Cardiff
-
Dr Lisa Claire Whitten, Research
Fellow, School of Law, Queen's University Belfast
The evidence session will take
place in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster and will be
available to watch live from 11:00 or on demand
on Parliamentlive.tv.
The Committee is expected to ask
questions around the following issues:
-
Lessons from Northern Ireland's
experience of having to follow changing EU rules under the
Protocol/Windsor Framework.
-
Lessons from Scottish and Welsh
Governments' pursuit of policy commitments to ‘keep pace' with
EU standards.
-
Issues UK dynamic alignment
with the EU could create for the devolved Governments and
legislatures, including the way in which the UK Government and
Parliament would need to engage with
the devolveds.
