School age vaccination: Lords committee to hear evidence

On Monday, the House of Lords Childhood Vaccinations Committee will be hearing from experts on school age vaccination. The purpose of this session is to examine how uptake of the vaccinations offered to school-aged children could be improved. 

Giving evidence at will be:  

• Kate Murdock, General Manager, 0 to 19 Children's Health Services, Trafford Local Care Organisation and Expert Adviser, School and Public Health Nurses Association (SAPHNA)  

• Dr Harriet Fisher, Research Fellow, Bristol Population Health Science Institute, Bristol Medical School 

Questions the committee is likely to ask include: 

• What are the key trends and disparities in school-aged vaccination coverage in recent years? 

• Who is responsible and accountable for improving uptake of school-aged vaccinations? How could responsibility and accountability be strengthened? 

• How effective is education for, and communication with, children and young people about vaccinations? How could this be made more effective? 

• How effective is communication with parents about school-aged vaccinations? How could this be made more effective? 

• How effective is the call/recall and consent process for school-aged vaccinations? How could this be made more effective? 

• How effective are catch-up programmes for school-aged children who have missed vaccinations? How could they be made more effective?
