MPs to hear from experts on the development and financing of new nuclear technologies

As governments around the world grapple with a major new fossil fuel crisis, there is renewed focus on nuclear energy's potential to deliver the “baseload” electricity and flexibility needed to guarantee supply during the transition to clean, renewable energy.

On Wednesday 15 April, at the new weekly meeting time of 9:15am, the Committee will question Rolls-Royce and X-energy, alongside legal firm Freshfields, on their perspectives on the development and financing of new nuclear technologies.

What are the most viable applications for emerging advanced nuclear technologies? What are the challenges for securing planning permission and getting them built?

When compared to large-scale nuclear, what benefits do emerging advanced nuclear technologies promise to deliver, on what timeline and at what cost?
