Lords inquiry on the relationship between young people and the built environment to hold first evidence session

On Tuesday 14 April the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will hold its first evidence session for its new inquiry on the relationship between young people and the built environment.

At 10.45am the committee will hear from:

• Neil Pinder, Head of Architecture at Graveney School
• Jenny Russell, Director of Education and Learning at RIBA
• Terry Watts, CEO of the Built Environment School Trust.

This session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.  

Topics likely to be covered in this session include:

• Whether the national curriculum sufficiently cover topics related to the built environment.
• What topics and methodologies can be used to help raise students' awareness of the built environment and develop their interest in the field.
• The resources or toolkits available to educators interested in teaching about the built environment.
• How the built environment industry and individual professionals in the sector already engage with schools.
• What can be done to teach young people about the broad range of careers in the built environment sector and be encouraged to pursue them.
