Conservative response to Government’s social-media ban trial

Laura Trott MP, Shadow Education Secretary, said:

“Labour were the only party to vote against our amendment to ban social media for under-16s. Getting kids off social media should be an urgent priority, yet Labour are offering only trials and consultations that kick the can down the road.

“Choosing process over action is not good enough. Every day that Labour fail to act, more children are exposed to violent, explicit and inappropriate content online. Other countries are taking action, but under Labour, the UK is being left behind.

“I hope Peers will vote again tonight to give Labour MPs another chance to do the right thing and ban social media for u16s, parents and watching and I will keep fighting.”
