Infrastructure Minister has congratulated teams across
the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) who have had their
work recognised for excellence and innovation at a prestigious
industry awards ceremony.
The DfI team behind the Moylinn Footbridge in Craigavon won the
Infrastructure Project of the Year Award (>£5m) at the annual
Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT)
Awards NI; and the work that helped ‘keep Belfast moving' in the
run up to Christmas last year was highly commended in the
Innovation category.
Minister Kimmins said: “Infrastructure is at the heart of
everything that makes our society work but so often the planning,
the engineering and the collaboration that goes into bringing
projects to fruition goes unseen.
“I've seen for myself the positive impact the new Moylinn
Footbridge has had in terms of providing safe and easy access for
pedestrians and cyclists to Craigavon City Park as well as the
nearby school and leisure centre.
“Similarly, a considerable amount of unseen innovative work and
collaboration went on throughout 2025 to mitigate against the
congestion previously experienced in Belfast city centre in the
run up to Christmas. To have this recognised by the CIHT judges
is really encouraging for everyone involved.
“Teams across the department worked together to deliver these
positive changes in Craigavon and Belfast, and I'm pleased to see
their efforts being recognised by their industry peers.”

transportation industry.
- The Department received a Highly Commended in the Innovation
Award for its ‘Unlocking Network Intelligence for Smarter, Faster
Decisions' project which focused on using sensor technology to
assist in traffic management in Belfast in the run up to
Christmas 2025.
