GLA savings and efficiency plans scrutinised

The Mayor has asked the Greater London Authority (GLA) to identify opportunities to work more efficiently.

The savings proposed at this stage are the result of a review of opportunities to work more efficiently for taxpayers, while limiting the impact on outcomes for Londoners. As a result, the GLA is proposing to reduce the size of some units, to merge some teams, and to centralise some functions.

The proposal is for the net loss of around 100 posts from the GLA's establishment which will mean 200 staff are at risk of redundancy.  A collective consultation with UNISON and individual affected members of staff is underway.

Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will question the Chief Officer, Mary Harpley about the proposals.

The Committee will also discuss London Assembly Plenary ways of working, the Assembly 2026-27 budget and the Secretariat Quarterly Monitoring Report.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 12 March from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
