The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee continues
its inquiry into the relationship between regulators and economic
growth by hearing from MP, Minister for Small
Business and Economic Transformation, Department for Business and
Trade.
The session will begin at 10.30am on Tuesday 24
February 2026 and can be followed live or afterwards on
Parliament
TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace
of Westminster.
Also giving evidence will be David Lunn, Director,
Regulation Directorate, Department for Business and Trade.
Members are expected to ask questions on:
- how the current focus on the growth agenda compares with what
has been done previously;
- the division of responsibility for regulation and growth
between the Department for Business and Trade and the
Treasury;
- mechanisms in place to hold regulators to account;
- how the actions regulators are planning will affect
trade;
- ensuring clarity for regulators on how their actions can
support growth;
- supporting regulators to become more risk averse;
- tracking progress against the target to reduce the
administrative burden of regulation by 25% by the end of this
Parliament;
- influencing regulators to make good decisions more quickly
and using fast lanes to facilitate the speed of
decision-making;
- how regulators should work together to help reduce burdens.
