Tuesday, 10 February at
2:30pm Committee Room 15, Palace of Westminster
The Justice Committee will examine the issues of funding, legal
advice and digitalisation during the second evidence session of
its inquiry on Access to Justice.
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP , will explore the potential
for additional funding schemes such as an Interest on Lawyers'
Client Accounts Scheme to support and expand access to justice,
including the extent to which the Government's proposals are in
line with best practice.
The second panel will assess the state of the legal advice sector
and the opportunities and challenges presented by digitalisation,
including the risks posed by AI and impact on access to advice.
Discussion is also likely to focus on the sector's capacity, the
pressures it faces, and how regulation helps or hinders its
ability to provide access to justice.
The inquiry examines the impact of those acting without legal
advice and / or representation on access to justice and the ways
in which the sector is adapting post Legal Aid, Sentencing, and
Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO) to secure access to
justice across civil, criminal and family law.
