Renewed calls for the UK Government to remove Energy Profits
Levy.
Ahead of the first meeting of the UK Government's North Sea
Future Board, Energy Secretary has once more called on the
UK Government to remove the Energy Profits Levy, to help ensure
there is a just transition from oil and gas to renewables that
protects skills and delivers a pipeline of future investment.
Ms Martin said: “There is no doubt that UK Government policies
are not only driving an accelerated decline in North Sea oil and
gas but placing Scotland's energy transition at risk and costing
jobs.
“I very much welcome the formation of the North Sea Future Board.
I will ensure the Scottish Government's views on the North Sea's
energy and industrial transition are well understood. This will
include our long-standing calls for the Energy Profits Levy to be
reformed or removed.
“Experts, academics, and charities across the North East have
been warning for months that the Energy Profits Levy is driving
an accelerated decline of North Sea oil and gas. I will continue
to urge the UK Government to consider those warnings, and end the
Energy Profits Levy to protect jobs, restore confidence, and
unlock investment.
“I also hope that this new Board will complement, amplify and
help to draw together the work already happening across a range
of existing structures – including the North Sea Transition Forum
and North Sea Transition Deal.”
