The Prime Minister has chaired Cabinet,
where - as we mark Holocaust Memorial Day -
he invited holocaust survivor Mala Tribich MBE to
address the room. This is understood to be the first time a
holocaust survivor has addressed Cabinet and comes as
the landmark Holocaust Memorial Bill gained Royal
Assent last week.
This afternoon he will depart for his travel to
China and Japan.
The Prime Minister announced a historic £250 ground rent
cap - ending the unjust feudal leasehold system and
saving some families hundreds of pounds a year. It will also help
many families who have been trapped in unfair housing situations
due to contracts that have seen ground rents rise exponentially.
The government has also confirmed plans to ban new leasehold
flats coming onto the market. This announcement comes alongside
publication of the draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill
today.
The Treasury will set out details on how it is backing British
pubs, building on support set out at the Budget, later today, as
the government recognises the challenges facing the industry
and the vital role they play in building strong local
communities.
Patients will benefit from earlier, less invasive cancer
treatment as the NHS launches a pioneering AI and robotic surgery
pilot to detect lung cancer sooner. Funding is also confirmed to
roll out lung cancer screening nationwide by 2030, helping save
thousands of lives.
Aspiring sportspeople of all ages across the UK will
benefit from improved local sports facilities as the
government confirms nearly £200 million for grassroots
sport, supporting affordable access and healthier lifestyles.
Funding will upgrade pitches and facilities in England, Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland, with a visit by the Culture
Secretary to Scotland to mark the announcement.
Thousands of victims will be spared unnecessary delays
waiting for justice to be done as Courts Minister confirms that
the last of the temporary "Nightingale Courts" will
become permanent fixtures in the court estate.
