2.30pm Venue: The Thatcher Room, Portcullis House
The Justice Committee will explore the issue of barriers to
employment for offenders during the second evidence session of
the second part of its inquiry into rehabilitation and
resettlement: ending the cycle of reoffending.
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP , will examine how the
Government supports offenders into employment, and
whether this is working. The session will assess how
support is provided in prisons, on release, and for those being
supervised in the community.
Discussion will also focus on disclosure of criminal records, and
what impact this has on rehabilitation and resettlement efforts.
The Committee's first report of this
inquiry focusing on rehabilitation in prisons, published in
November, concluded prison overcrowding, staffing
shortages and deteriorating infrastructure is having a ‘profound
impact on the ability of prisons to deliver
rehabilitation'.
