Urgent questions and statements - Monday, January 19

Following Education orals in the Commons, there will be four urgent questions and two Government statements.

1) Urgent question from Shadow Chancellor Sir Mel Stride on planned changes to business rates for the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors

2)Urgent question from Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel on the UK Government's response to the treatment of protesters by the Iranian regime

3) Urgent question from Shadow HCLG Secretary Sir James Cleverly on the cancellation of scheduled local elections in May 2026

4) Urgent question from Labour MP Sarah Champion on what representations have been made to Five Eyes partners on the potential risks posed by the proximity of sensitive cabling infrastructure to Royal Mint Court, the site of the proposed new Chinese Embassy 

5) Statement from Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Arctic Security

6) Statement from Justice Minister Alex Davies-Jones on the Public Office (Accountability) Bill

There is a strong possibility that today's main business, which is the remaining stages of the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, will be "pulled" and that there will be no main business in the Commons. It is likely that the statement from the Justice Minister Alex Davies-Jones will explain the situation more fully.
