Written statement (Wales) on Leadership appointment at Estyn - Dec 12

Lynne Neagle, Cabinet Secretary for Education: Following the First Minister's recommendation, His Majesty the King has agreed that Owen Evans, the Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales, will be re-appointed for a further 5 years from 1 January 2027 when his current term ends.

I would like to congratulate Owen and thank him for his ongoing commitment and contribution to the education system in Wales. 

Estyn is key to driving progress on my priorities of improving literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and inclusion in education. Estyn's work to support schools through their inspection and interim visit programme provides a strong, clear and consistent national framework for all schools and local authorities, aligned with these national priorities.
