Morgan Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between BP
Alternative Energy Investments Ltd and Energie Baden-Württemberg
AG, has received development consent for its Morgan Generation
Assets project. The Secretary of State granted approval on 29
August 2025, marking a significant milestone in the UK's
transition to clean energy.
The project will deliver a new offshore wind farm in the Irish
Sea, entirely within the UK's Exclusive Economic Zone and
adjacent to the Isle of Man. The development includes up to 96
wind turbine generators, four offshore substation platforms, and
an extensive network of subsea interconnector cables. This
consent supports the UK Government's ambition to generate 50
gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy from offshore wind by 2030,
helping to achieve national net zero targets and strengthen
energy security.
Throughout the application process, the Marine Management
Organisation (MMO) worked closely with the applicant, the
Planning Inspectorate (PINS), and other stakeholders to ensure
environmental considerations were addressed. The MMO provided
detailed input on marine impacts and mitigation measures across
seven deadlines, concluding on 10 March 2025, and continued
engagement during post-examination stages.
With consent now granted, Morgan Offshore Wind Limited is poised
to play a critical role in delivering clean, sustainable energy
for the UK. The MMO will maintain its involvement as post-consent
requirements progress.
