What is the best way to bring the public along with the UK’s transition to clean energy?

The Government's ability to make difficult decisions, change how energy is generated and used in the UK, and meet its clean energy and Net Zero goals will depend on winning and keeping public support.

However, vocal opposition to Net Zero, including to the wider energy transition, has grown. The political consensus that existed when the previous Government put the Net Zero 2050 target into law has since weakened.

So what should public institutions do now to engage people with the energy transition, and how should they respond to the growing spread of misinformation?

While much of the debate has focused on costs, and on reducing electricity bills for households and businesses, should the Government and the independent Climate Change Committee place more emphasis on the wider benefits of the transition, such as better health, longer lives and a healthier natural environment - or on the consequences of failing to act?
