The Planning Inspectorate has completed the national rollout of
its new digital appeals service, enabling all local planning
authorities to manage planning appeals online.
We're pleased to announce that our new online appeals service is
now available to all local planning authorities (LPAs) in
England. This marks the completion of a major milestone in our
digital transformation programme, which we announced in July
2025.
All LPAs can now use the new service to manage Householder (HAS),
Planning (S78) and Listed Building (S20) appeals.
Additional appeal types coming soon
We will be adding more appeal types to the new service in the
coming months:
- 17 December 2025: Commercial Planning, Commercial
Adverts, and Advertisements
- February 2026: Enforcement, Enforcement Listed Building
and Lawful Development Certificate
What this means for local planning authorities
The new service provides several key improvements for LPAs:
- Faster, more efficient processes – streamlined
submission and management of appeals reduces administrative
burden
- User-friendly dashboard – designed in line with GOV.UK
design principles to make reviewing and monitoring cases easier
- Better communication – improved communication between
all parties, with less reliance on paper-based processes
- Continuous improvement – the system is regularly updated
based on user feedback and real-world use
Transition from the Appeals Casework Portal
The new service will eventually replace the Appeals Casework
Portal (ACP). All new cases for the released appeal types will
use the new service only – you will not be able to access these
cases from ACP.
However, any existing cases that were already started on ACP
(either in draft or live) before the switchover will continue to
be managed in ACP. This includes viewing any decided appeals.
