How can marginalised groups best be incorporated into the design and delivery of the next generation of new towns?

At 10.45am on Tuesday 2 December, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will hear evidence from:

• Amanprit Arnold, Founder and Director, Disability Urbanism
• Dinah Bornat, Director, ZCD Architects
• Councillor Holly Bruce, Scottish Green Councillor for Langside Ward, Glasgow.

This is the fifth evidence session of the second module of the committee's inquiry into new towns and expanded settlements. This module is focusing on placemaking and community building, answering the fundamental question: how can we ensure that new towns are places where people want to live and where they will thrive?

This evidence session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.

Questions likely to be covered in this session include:

• Why is it important to consider the needs of specific marginalised groups when planning for new towns?
• What do witnesses perceive to be the biggest challenges in the built environment for marginalised groups?

• The next generation of new towns will be a combination of stand-alone settlements, urban extensions, and regeneration & densification projects. What are the differing opportunities for, and challenges to, designing for marginalised groups in each of these contexts?
