Hostile cyber activity in the UK is growing more intense,
frequent and sophisticated. In light of recent cyber incidents,
the government has written an open letter to industry trade
bodies and business representative organisations with advice to
help ensure small businesses are best protected against cyber
threats.
The letter sets out two key actions small business owners and
entrepreneurs can take to improve their cyber resilience:
-
Use the new Cyber Action
Toolkit, a free, personalised cyber security solution
from experts at the National Cyber Security Centre
(NCSC)
which sets out simple, achievable steps for small businesses.
-
Adopt Cyber
Essentials, the government's highly effective scheme to
protect against common cyber attacks. It includes free cyber
insurance, access to a 24/7 emergency helpline and opens
doors to government contracts and enhanced business
opportunities. Organisations with Cyber Essentials are 92%
less likely to make a claim on their cyber insurance.
If businesses do face an incident, help is available round the
clock. Fraud and cyber crime can be reported to Action Fraud, or by calling
101 in Scotland.
This open letter has been sent to a wide range of industry trade
bodies and business representative organisations, who are
encouraged to share this information with their members and
networks.
