Lords Communications Committee to hear evidence on AI and copyright from international experts

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will next week continue its inquiry into AI and copyright with evidence from leading international experts on copyright law. 

The inquiry builds on the Committee's previous work on AI and copyright. It has looked at the issue as part of previous reports into UK scaleups, large language models and the creative industries.  

Next week's evidence session will start at 2:30pm on Tuesday 25 November with evidence from:   

• Professor Eleonora Rosati, Professor of Intellectual Property Law, Stockholm University
• Dr Alina Trapova, Lecturer in Law, University College London  

This session will examine how other countries are responding to the copyright challenges posed by AI and what lessons the UK can draw from their approaches. The Committee will explore how different jurisdictions regulate the use of copyrighted works in AI training, whether rights-reservation and opt-out mechanisms have been effective in practice, international examples of transparency and audit obligations that help rightsholders identify when their works have been used in AI systems, and how countries are tackling issues arising from AI-generated outputs.
