Scottish FM congratulates new President of Ireland

First Minister John Swinney has congratulated Catherine Connolly following her inauguration as the 10^th President of Ireland. Reflecting on the many connections between Scotland and Ireland, he committed to working with the new President to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The First Minister said:

“On behalf of the people of Scotland, I extend the warmest congratulations to Catherine Connolly on her inauguration as the 10^th President of Ireland. I wish her every success as she assumes this important office.

“Ireland and Scotland have much to gain by working together. We share a rich history that has been shaped by our proximity, close communities, shared culture and common experiences. I am committed to building on our many connections to deliver benefits for people in both countries.
