Law Society comment: Children in custody

The Law Society has commented on the Children's Commissioner report.

“The Law Society agrees with the Children's Commissioner that custodial remand for children must be a last resort,” said Law Society of England and Wales president Mark Evans.

“To protect children's wellbeing, robust safeguards are essential.

“We have been proud to work with the Youth Justice Legal Centre and others to develop the Youth Justice Charter, to continue to champion a more child-focused approach to police bail and remand, and clearer court communication to help children understand the decisions that affect them.”
