Lords Communications Committee open new inquiry into AI and copyright with evidence from rightsholder organisations

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will tomorrow open a new inquiry into AI, copyright and creative content with evidence from organisations representing musicians, authors, photographers and the news industry.

In its new inquiry the Committee will explore the practical steps that would enable creative rightsholders to reserve and enforce their rights in relation to AI systems, the level of transparency and accountability we should expect from AI developers and how licensing, attribution and labelling tools might support a viable marketplace for creative content as AI use increases.

The inquiry will build on the Committee's previous work on AI and copyright. It has looked at the issue as part of previous reports into UK scaleups, large language models and the creative industries.

The Committee will publish its findings next year and aims to develop a set of key considerations for the Government as it takes forward its own work on copyright following its recent consultation.

The first evidence session of the new inquiry will start at 2:30pm on Tuesday 4 November with evidence from:
