Industry representatives to give evidence on UK-India Free Trade Agreement

Tomorrow (Tuesday) the House of Lords International Agreements Committee will continue its inquiry into the UK-India Free Trade Agreement by quizzing industry representatives.  

The session will take place on Tuesday 21 October at 4pm and can be followed live on parliament.tv 

Giving evidence will be: 

• William Bain, Head of Trade Policy, British Chambers of Commerce  

• Alessandro Marongiu, Head of Trade Policy, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders 

• Paul Alger, Director of International Affairs, UK Fabrics and Textiles  

• Prof. Sangeeta Khorana, Professor of International Trade Policy, Aston University 

Topics the committee is likely to cover include: 

• The overall assessment of the value of the deal for businesses, industry and sectors across the UK 

• Rules of origin provisions in the agreement, and to what extent they adequately support industry supply chains 

• The Double Contributions Convention being negotiated and how the Convention will contribute to the bilateral trade and investment relationship 

• The level of consultation and engagement with the Government during the negotiations 

• How businesses can be supported as the agreement is implemented.
