Public Finance Minister is to chair a summit of more
than 140 senior public sector representatives geared to help
identify ways to deliver £1 billion of savings over five years
and free up resources for frontline services.
More than 75 public bodies will take part in a series of
workshops to consider how best to reduce spending on corporate
functions while delivering sustainable public services.
Groups will focus on the Scottish Government's Public Service
Reform Strategy – a blueprint which sets out the need to
collaborate to drive efficiencies.
Mr McKee said:
“Scotland's public services are among our greatest assets and an
investment in our health, equality and prosperity. That
investment should be efficient, effective and targeted where it
makes the most difference.
“We have set out our ambitions and now we must focus all of our
efforts on delivery. Workshops at the summit will drill into the
detail of how we can work together to identify barriers, generate
new ideas and take concrete actions to deliver a more efficient
system.
“Efficiency is about protecting and strengthening services for
the future and ensuring every pound returns maximum value. It is
about stripping out duplication and freeing resources to support
the frontline.
“The Scottish Government will lead from the front but we need all
partners to be bold and work collaboratively to deliver lasting,
transformational and sustainable change.”
