The Minister of Justice is reminding people that the deadline to
apply for a fireworks licence is imminent.
Applications must be received by the Department of Justice by 17
October.
It's mandatory in Northern Ireland to have a licence - even if
you are just using fireworks for a small family celebration.
Minister Long said: “I am urging people
to be responsible and ensure that Halloween is safe for everyone
and no one suffers unnecessary injuries. Please give yourself
enough time to apply for a licence and remember to follow the
firework safety code.”
People are also being reminded to ensure they source their
fireworks from a reputable supplier. Fireworks must be purchased
from a retailer who has been registered by the Department of
Justice. Those bought from illegal sources may not be safe and
may result in prosecution.
Licence applications and a list of registered firework retailers
are available from the nidirect website: www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/fireworks
