Chief Secretary to the Treasury to give evidence to Lords inquiry on the impact of ageing

At 3pm on Tuesday 14 October, the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee, as part of its inquiry on the impact of ageing on the UK economy, will be taking evidence from the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, James Murray MP.

This evidence session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords. It will also be streamed live and on demand on Parliament TV.

Topics the committee is likely to cover in this session include:

• The risks and opportunities of an ageing population.
• Government policy for boosting productivity as the age profile of the workforce changes.
• Role of employers in accommodating an ageing workforce and what the Government can do to encourage and support employers to play that role.
• Analysis of the fiscal impact of changes to immigration characteristics since Brexit.
• The growing discrepancy, and forecasts thereof, between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy.
• What the Government is doing to help prepare younger people for longer lives.
