Economic experts to give evidence to Peers on UK-India Free Trade Agreement

The House of Lords International Agreements Committee will tomorrow be questioning economic experts as part of its inquiry into the UK-India Free Trade Agreement. 

The session will take place on Tuesday 14 October at 4pm and can be followed live on parliament.tv 

Giving evidence will be: 

• Sophie Hale, Chief Economist, Resolution Foundation  

• Dr. Mattia di Ubaldo, Principal Research Fellow, Department of Economics at University of Sussex and Deputy Director UK Trade Policy Observatory 

Topics the committee is likely to cover include: 

• Assessment of the final terms of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement 

• The extent to which the deal contributes to the UK's national interest 

• How the Agreement relates to the wider geopolitical and trading environment   

• The main sectors that will benefit from the deal, and which are exposed 

• Trade-offs or concessions made by the Government to conclude the final deal 

• Benefits or drawbacks for consumers arising out of the Agreement 

• How the deal supports the aims of the UK's trade and industrial strategies 

• Implications of the provisions on labour, environment and climate
