DWP follow-up inquiry: Public Accounts Committee call for evidence

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will be following up recent scrutiny with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in autumn 2025, and welcomes evidence on the below topics. 

The PAC's July 2025 report on Jobcentres warned that government seemed complacent at the potential impact of a reduction in support for benefit claimants. Amid a shortfall of work coaches, and third-sector organisations raising concerns with the inquiry about the quality and consistency of the support offered, the PAC was not convinced by the DWP's assurances about the reduction of this support.

The PAC's January 2025 report into the DWP's customer service and accounts for 2023-24 found that the service provided to customers was a mixed bag, with disability benefits claimants found to have received an unacceptably poor level of service and fraud levels also remaining high. 

The follow-up inquiry will take into account the Government's response to both inquiries (here and here) and subsequent correspondence on the PAC's Jobcentres report from the DWP's Permanent Secretary Sir Peter Schofield. The PAC will also be exploring the DWP's digital policy delivery, particularly the areas of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, alongside approaches taken by international comparators.
