BRC respond to Rachel Reeves’ Labour conference speech

Responding to Chancellor Rachel Reeves' speech at Labour Conference, Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive at the British Retail Consortium, said:

"The Chancellor is right to be resolute on keeping prices down - a recent survey by the BRC showed prices rising faster than wages was the biggest concern among working people.  The ability of retailers to support this goal will depend on the November Budget - will the Chancellor support our high streets and communities by implementing a meaningful reduction to retail business rates, with no shop paying more; or will she once again heap new taxes onto an already overburdened industry, forcing them to keep shop prices higher for longer and adding to the pain of millions of families struggling with the rising cost of living."
