- Five more models now qualify for major discounts as part of
the Electric Car Grant scheme
- Drivers can save £1,500 on these latest electric cars, in
addition to 17 models already announced
- £650 million scheme is backing industry, supporting jobs and
putting money back in working people's pockets as part of the
Government's Plan for Change
Drivers across the country can save £1,500 on some of the UK's
most popular car brands from today (13 August 2025), as five more
models have been approved under the Government's Electric Car
Grant scheme, putting money back in the pockets of millions of
drivers.
A total of 22 types of new electric vehicles (EVs) are now
approved, with more models still to be confirmed. Models from
Volkswagen, Peugeot and Cupra have now been confirmed as eligible
under the scheme as part of the Government's £650 million
investment to make it cheaper and easier to own an EV while
supporting jobs and growth as part of the Plan for
Change.
The Electric Car Grant forms part of a £4.5 billion investment
from Government to turbocharge the switch to EVs, securing the
UK's position as a world-leader in EV adoption after Britain was
Europe's largest EV market in 2024, and sales up almost a third
so far this year.
The new eligible models are:
- Cupra Born - £1500 discount
- Volkswagen ID.3 - £1500 discount
- Peugeot e-208 - £1500 discount
- Peugeot e-2008 - £1500 discount
- Peugeot e-Rifter - £1500 discount
The update comes as new
stats released yesterday show over 120,000 electric
vehicles were registered in the first three months of 2025 – an
increase of 43% from the same period last year. The figures are
the equivalent of 1,300 new EVs joining UK roads every day,
proving the transition towards greener transport has no sign of
slowing down.
The latest figures show public appetite to make the switch to EVs
continues to grow, which is why Government is making it easier
than ever. Alongside the new Electric Car Grant offering record
discounts of up to £3,750 off the price of new EVs, the
Government is also delivering record boosts to the UK's charging
infrastructure, including through a £25m investment announced in
July to help local authorities expand at-home charging
opportunities for thousands of households.
This forms part of a wider £63 million investment package to
supercharge Britain's electric vehicle infrastructure, driving
down charging costs and putting money back in the pockets of
working people. With more than 83,000 public chargepoints now
available and over 100,000 more on the way through the £381m
Local EV Infrastructure fund alone, the Government is building
the infrastructure drivers need to the make the switch with
confidence.
The investment will help deliver the Plan for Change mission to
make Britain a clean energy superpower, making driving a cheaper
and cleaner whilst driving economic growth.
