Conservative response to nurses rejecting government pay deal

Stuart Andrew MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, said:

“Labour has now been in power for over a year. That is more than enough time to understand that short-sighted decisions have lasting consequences.

“The Conservatives warned Labour that giving an inflation-busting pay rise to junior doctors would inevitably raise questions among other hardworking NHS staff, like nurses, about their own value to this government. Labour have refused to listen and now we are seeing the consequences.”

“We have set out clear common-sense proposals like banning doctors from striking, and ensuring minimum service levels across the health service, but Wes Streeting has buried his head in the sand. The public deserve a proper plan for the NHS that will protect patients, protect taxpayers and protect our health service. Labour are clearly incapable of delivering that.”
