Readouts of calls the Prime Minister had this morning with the
Prime Minister of Australia, the Prime Minister of New Zealand,
and the President of the UAE.
A Downing Street spokeswoman said:
“The Prime Minister spoke to the Prime Minister of Australia
Anthony Albanese this morning to discuss the situation in Gaza.
“The Prime Minister began by setting out the UK's framework for
peace and reiterated his focus on ensuring that recognition was
not a gesture, but a driver for real change that ensured a viable
two-state solution.
“The Prime Minister updated on the UK's involvement in Jordanian
air drops to ensure aid reached the most vulnerable in Gaza as
soon as possible and reiterated the need for large convoys of aid
trucks to reach Gaza at pace.
“The leaders agreed on the importance of using the international
momentum to secure a ceasefire, the release of all hostages and
the acceleration of aid, as well as ensuring Hamas did not play a
role in a future state.
“The leaders also discussed AUKUS – the UK, US and Australian
programme to build the next generation of attack submarines – and
welcomed the progress being made by all partners on the
programme.
“Both looked forward to speaking again soon.”
A Downing Street spokeswoman said:
“The Prime Minister spoke to New Zealand Prime Minister
Christopher Luxon this morning.
“The leaders began by discussing the situation on the ground in
Gaza, and the desperate scenes of starvation and hunger seen in
recent days and weeks. It was vital large volumes of aid reached
Gaza in the coming hours and days, both agreed.
“The Prime Minister then set out his plan for peace, including
putting the UK on a pathway to recognition. That recognition
needed to be rooted in a process of change that made material
difference to the situation on the ground, the Prime Minister
added.
“Updating on his recent discussions with partners across the
world, the two Prime Ministers agreed on the importance of the
international community working together to secure a ceasefire,
the release of all hostages, and a viable two-state solution that
ensured Hamas did not play a role in a future state.
“Turning to the situation in Ukraine, the leaders welcomed
President Trump's deadline for Russia to show it was serious
about peace and reiterated their support for Ukraine.
“The leaders agreed to stay in close touch.”
A Downing Street spokesperson said:
“The Prime Minister spoke to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President
of the UAE last night.
“The Prime Minister started by updating His Highness on the UK's
work to pave the way to peace and security in Israel and the
Occupied Palestinian Territories, including through a renewed
push to get humanitarian aid into Gaza to help alleviate the
appalling suffering unfolding there and our work with allies on a
peace plan to build on a ceasefire and ultimately lead to a
viable two-state solution.
“He explained the UK's intention to recognise the state of
Palestine before UNGA in September unless significant progress is
made and long-term peace negotiations have started. He reiterated
that the UK calls unequivocally for the immediate release of all
hostages and that Hamas must sign up to a ceasefire, disarm and
accept that they will play no role in Gaza's future.
“The leaders agreed that a viable and sovereign Palestinian state
living alongside a safe and secure Israel can be the only basis
for a just and lasting peace and that they would stay in close
touch.”
